In den 1980er Jahren schien Benromach vor dem Aus zu stehen, bevor der unabhngige Abfller Gordon & Macphail aus Elgin sich der Destillerie annahm. 1998 wurde die in Forres gelegene Brennerei von Prince Charles wiedererffnet. Benromach produziert als eine der wenigen Destillerien in der schottischen Speyside kontinuierlich mit rauchigem Gerstenmalz.
